image The Flower

Spread the love

It starts with a seed

So small it gives no hint

Of the magnificence it will breed.

It begins to bud

Drinking in the tumbling rain

That’s a potent, strengthening blood.

It rises high

Its appearance changing daily

Under the warming, sunny sky.

And now it’s grown

Life beating through its core

From a seed that once was sewn.

It stands beside

Drooping stems and dropped petals

All lost, by the wayside.

It could bloom

Or it could hide in the shade

And wither in the gloom.

But it chooses to blossom.

And so:

It turns towards the sun

And basks within its glow

It revels in its beauty

Its colours all on show.

It spreads its sweet perfume

And sprays a heady scent

It holds itself up tall

Its stem straight and not bent.

The years roll by, it ages

But it still retains its grace

Continuing to thrive

In nature’s great embrace.

It’s now the end

Of a life fulfilled, from which

A new seed will ascend.
